Where are HVACR Workers in the Vaccination Line?

BY Alex Ayers
2/9/2021 - HVAC Government Affairs , COVID-19

As more doses of COVID-19 vaccinations become available, states are starting to offer the vaccine to large groups of people in a predetermined order. Every state was required to submit plans for vaccinations to the federal government last October, many of them following federal guidelines. Under the federal guidelines, essential workers, which includes HVACR technicians and warehouse workers, are deemed essential. The guidance breaks individuals qualifying for the vaccine because of occupations into two groups, frontline essential workers, such as police, firefighters, teachers, and assisted living staff, and essential workers. Under this guidance essential workers are defined by the CISA guidance used by many states during lockdowns.

In most states that have announced their plans for essential workers, HVACR professionals will qualify in phase 1C, sometimes called phase 3 depending on the state’s nomenclature. The following table lists the current phase of vaccine distribution and when essential workers become eligible according to the draft plans released last October. States are moving into new phases and have revised plans since last October so please consult with your state or county department of health to determine eligibility.
