The HARDI member spotlight serves as a regular feature through which the association management highlights standout individuals in the HVACR industry and their companies. For our September 2019 Member Spotlight, we spoke with Andrew Barton, CEO of CFM Equipment Distributors based out of Sacramento, CA. Andrew is also on HARDI’s Board of Directors.
We want to recognize Andrew for his support of our partner philanthropy, Homes For Our Troops. He has gone above and beyond to support the cause, even going as far as shipping equipment to a site 8 hours away. CFM Equipment Distributors is helping to build the home of SPC Joseph Paulk, Jr., whose injuries require advanced climate controls in order to maintain a safe body temperature.
In this Q&A we discuss the impact giving back has had on Andrew and his company.
You have helped Homes For Our Troops in such a big way. What has that experience been like and what does the cause mean to you?
When we were contacted about the opportunity to support this project, our team went to work coordinating the supply list and shipment scheduling with the site coordinator. Fortunately, we have a lot of experience shipping material over long distances and having it arrive in one piece, so this was right in our team’s wheelhouse. Everyone was excited to be a part of supporting Homes For Our Troops, and to be able to give back to someone who selflessly served our country.
Why as a leader do you feel it’s important to give back?
As a leader you are a steward of the organization and its culture. CFM’s mission is to help our customers and our employees succeed. It’s the filter we analyze all our initiatives through. If we are going to do something, it has to be a part of accomplishing that goal. We have supported several non-profits and charitable organizations over the years, and this was another opportunity that we saw as an extension of our core philosophy that your success comes through your efforts to help others succeed and grow.
How does a company culture centered on giving back inspire your employees to excel?
Supporting an organization like Homes For Our Troops is just an extension of the core principals our team uses in everyday operations. The core of our organization’s values are high performance teamwork and professional excellence. Real teamwork requires a great deal of trust and sometimes vulnerability. When people work together toward shared goals and see that everyone is supporting each other to drive success, and get everyone to the finish line, the commitment to excellence and achievement just increases. It’s about shared purpose.
What should other HARDI members look forward to when donating to HFOT?
Supporting Homes For Our Troops affords a unique opportunity for HARDI members to help people who have served and sacrificed to rebuild and have a sound foundation for success.I think the impact members make through their support will result in an incredible return on investment for their organizations.
